AMSTERDAM

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands and the most populated city in the country. However, the Netherlands is governed from The Hague , where the government and parliament are located. The city is located in the province of North Holland, in the west of the country. Founded as a fishing village on the banks of the Amstel river in the 12th century, Amsterdam is the largest city in the Netherlands in terms of population and the most important city in terms of culture and finance.

Amsterdam has one of the most established urban textures in Europe , with buildings mostly dating back to the 17th century . The old part of the city consists of interlocking crescent-shaped channels. Some of the historical houses on both sides of these canals are used as homes today, while the rest are used as public or private workplaces. In particular, Dam Square in Amsterdam is very famous and attracts visitors from many parts of the world.

Famous Amsterdam residents include Anne Frank, artists Rembrandt van Rijn and Vincent van Gogh, and philosopher Baruch Spinoza. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is also located in Amsterdam.

As the Olten Philharmonic Orchestra, we gave a Valentine's Day concert on February 14, 2024, at Het Concertgebouw, one of the most important concert halls in Europe. Joë Christophe, the young and successful clarinet player, accompanied our orchestra under the direction of conductor Murat Cem Orhan. The concert, which filled the hall with art lovers from various countries of Europe, also attracted great attention in the press. Additionally, Olten Quartet gave a concert at the Yunus Emre Institute in Amsterdam on the night of February 13, at the invitation of The Hague Ambassador Selçuk Ünal.
